Why was this web page created?

This web page is for us, Class of '87. Now we have a place to go on the web to find out about our graduating class.

What was it that caused me to get involved with the reunion?

UPDATE (November 2006): It has been 5 years since I wrote the letter below and many things have changed.  All the questioned I had about life have been answered. If you are interested in the path my life has taken, send me an e-mail.

(October 2001.)  For the past 8 years, I had been asking myself some difficult philosophical questions. What is my purpose in life?  What collective meaning do human beings have on this planet?  What is the meaning of life?

Those questions were the result of events in my life, which shook and eventually crumbled the very foundation of who I was. It turned out to be a good thing because I value who I am now.  Furthermore, I no longer see life’s struggles as a negative since the potential for growth with a positive outcome will always be the case.

About a year before our 10 year reunion, I began to think about the rest of our class and what we have in common.  We were all born within a year of each other. We grew up with the same music.  We lived in Southern California.  World events at that time shaped our lives.  There are so many similarities that the bond between us is much deeper than one would expect.

I thought about the personal growth we all go through. Falling in love, being heart broken, loved ones who have passed on, family struggles, to name a few life-events that most of us, if not all of us, have experienced.

I wondered how many of you had gone through a difficult period in life, which resulted in a positive, life-changing growth.

The 10 year reunion allowed me to connect with all of you and appreciate the different paths in life each of you took.  More importantly, I value what you learned and what was gained through the process.

This is why I'm so involved with our class reunion.  It goes beyond just doing it for fun. It's now a passion of mine to bring us together and share in life.

Sincerely,
Lance Laughlin
